Experience:
Transport, Energy & Environment
TTR
has carried out the following projects:
- TTR evaluated the
traffic management measures implemented in 7 European cities as part of
the ECs Jupiter-2 project. The methods included emissions and energy
consumption modelling, and user and operator acceptance of new clean vehicle
technologies (e.g. CNG, electric and clean diesel).
- TTR has drawn up guidelines
for local authorities on reducing vehicle movements before and during high
pollution episodes (either through enforced or voluntary restrictions) as
part of DTLRs Traffic Management and Air Quality Programme.
- TTR developed methodologies
and software tools for strategic environmental assessment of road, rail,
air and waterborne transport modes within the ECs COMMUTE project.
- Since 1997, TTR has
co-ordinated and developed Clear
Zones, a DTLR initiative to reduce pollution and traffic in towns and
enhance manufacturing and export opportunities by developing innovative
technologies and transport solutions.
- TTR was commissioned
by the Energy Saving Trust to monitor its PowerShift
initiative, which provides part funding for clean fuel vehicles. Tasks
included developing the initiative, reporting on the performance of funded
vehicles and offering guidance to potential new users on the opportunities
and hurdles of operating clean-fuelled vehicles.
- TTR is leading research
into Low Emission
Zones (LEZ) on behalf of the National Society for Clean Air. Projects
tasks have included defining the LEZ criteria, assessing the practical implementation
issues, developing a toolkit for local authorities wishing to create a LEZ,
and developing and promoting the concept. With a number of other partners,
TTR is drawing up a feasibility study for a LEZ in London on behalf of Transport
for London, the Association of London Government and the Greater London
Assembly.
- TTR, together with
Casella Stanger, has undertaken a review of the traffic and transport elements
of all UK air quality action plans received by DEFRA and the devolved bodies.
The review considers the cost-effectiveness of the plans, and their compliance
with Government policies and EU legislation.
