The experience of TTR and its key freight experts includes:
- TTR has coordinated the South London Freight Quality Partnership (SLFQP) on behalf of eight London Boroughs. The SLFQP aims to bring together all relevant and interested stakeholders (authorities, businesses and interest groups) to engage in useful dialogue regarding urban freight. TTR has worked with the partners and TfL to define and implement a technical work programme to complement the draft London Freight Plan.
- Working with the Department for Transport, the major freight stakeholder groups and key local authorities to gain an understanding of and identify the major issues in relation to urban freight transport at the national level through our role as co-ordinator of the Clear Zones Freight Interest Group between 2001 and 2005.
- Work on the set-up, feasibility and evaluation of urban freight consolidation centres in Bristol and London covering issues such as operator needs, potential market size, barriers, uptake, cost and environmental benefits.
- Close association with the BESTUFS network - the European network investigating best practice in urban freight distribution across the EU. Our experts have been invited to speak to the network over the past few years on issues such as home deliveries, urban consolidation centres and the impact of road pricing on urban goods distribution. We have also been subcontracted to organise one of their annual conferences.
- Stakeholder consultation with organisations such as local authorities and industry representatives. A particular example of this, within the framework of the South London FQP, is the development of local solutions in areas where it is virtually impossible for loading and unloading operations to be conducted legally. TTR achieved this in six locations through a mix of consultations, on-street surveys of loading and unloading facilities/problems and subsequent expert analysis.
- Liaising with industry on operational/environmental issues, the impact of potential regulatory change and representing industry in policy discussions with local, regional and national Government.
- Carrying out a programme of technical research, on behalf of the Department for Transport, into the key aspects of operational efficiency within freight operations in England , identifying critical measures proven to enhance fleet performance.
- Promoting best practice in freight operational efficiency, on behalf of the Department for Transport, aimed at helping operators reduce fuel consumption, thereby reducing operating costs and vehicle emissions.
- Undertaking site-specific advice (SSA), involving on-site fleet efficiency reviews to help public and private sector operators to identify areas for financial and environmental performance improvements. This also involves developing action plans for the implementation of fuel management programmes.
- Undertaking the review of transport-related elements of local authority air quality action plans for DEFRA, requiring a sound knowledge of the range of measures which have been proposed to mitigate the air quality, noise and transport impacts of freight traffic across the UK .
