European Transport projects
TTR is one the foremost companies in Europe for helping local authorities and other organisations to gain access to European research and demonstration funding programmes, not only in the transport sector but also in energy, environment and social affairs.
Current European Project Involvement for TTR
ECOStars Europe
ECOSTARS Europe promotes more energy efficient and cleaner freight movements by providing recognition, guidance and advice to operators of goods vehicle fleets. The scheme will rate vehicles and operating practices using star rating criteria, to recognise levels of environmental and energy-saving performance. Each operator signing up to the scheme will receive tailor-made support to ensure that their fleet is running as efficiently and economically as possible, to help them progress to higher ratings within the scheme
QUEST (Quality management tool for Urban Energy efficient Sustainable Transport)
QUEST is an IEE project that will develop an audit tool to evaluate and improve sustainable urban mobility plans across 45 European cities. QUEST will build on experience of existing quality management tools for urban transport and environment. At the end of an audit, each city will receive a certificate recognising their efforts in sustainable urban mobility planning. Each city will also be given a tailor made Action Plan to support them in progressing towards a more sustainable urban transport system. This will be informed by the present quality of urban mobility policy. QUEST distinguishes 3 types of improvement programmes; 'starters', 'climbers' and 'champions'. There are 19 project partners. The Project Co-ordinator is Ligtermoet & Partners. TTR is a member of the core project management team and will contribute to most work packages. Our main roles will be to: lead work package 3, state of the art view of urban mobility assessment, develop the first stage of the audit process, help implement the city audits.
COFRET (Carbon Footprint of Freight Transport)
TTR is the dissemination leader for this collaborative research and demonstration project, part-funded by the European Commission. The project will deliver a methodology for the calculation of the carbon footprint along the full supply chain. The methodology will draw upon existing initiatives already being developed by various stakeholders in the supply chain so that it is aligned with the needs of those responsible for shipping and transporting goods by whatever means.
BIOMASTER
BIOMASTER is a project, co-funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe-Programme and is comprised of 17 partners, coming from Austria, Italy, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The project ambition is to exploit the potential of biomethane production and use for transport to overcome the current impasse and bring the key components of the biomethane chain into a joint initiative, stimulating investments, removing non-technological barriers and mobilising action for uptake
TRAILBLAZER (Intelligent Energy Europe STEER 2009) – showcasing good practices and promoting Delivery and Servicing Plans (DSPs) across Europe.
TTR is Project Coordinator for this 3 year IEE project, which started in July 2010. The TRAILBLAZER project (Transport and Innovation Logistics by Local Authorities with a Zest for Efficiency and Realisation) will achieve a reduction in energy used in urban freight transport through public sector policy interventions across Europe by showcasing good practices and promoting Delivery and Servicing Plans (DSPs). DSPs are key strategy documents outlining how an organisation will deal with its need to generate freight transport efficiently, safely and in a sustainable way.
CLIMATLANTIC (INTERREG IVB ATLANTIC Area Programme 2009) – reducing the carbon footprint in the Atlantic Area.
TTR is supporting Merseytravel with this 3 year INTERREG project, which commenced in 2010 and finishes in 2012. CLIMATLANTIC is a transnational project looking at developing strategies at regional and local level towards the reduction of the carbon footprint in the Atlantic Area. The strategies will be developed under 4 basic pillars - Mobility, Energy, Management Territory and Social Behaviour. Merseytravel leads the Social Behaviour workstream and TTR is coordinating the Think Tank action and providing management, reporting and communications support.
CIVITAS City Network – the Local Authority Network for Sustainable Mobility.
In 2008, TTR was responsible for establishing the CIVITAS UK & Ireland City Network (CIVINET), developing its processes, recruiting new members and promoting its aims and benefits to new target audiences. This project covered funding for the initial set-up of the network, including the development of the Network's Management Committee, as well as planning and delivery of the Network's first wider membership meeting. Since 2009, TTR has also been supporting Lancashire County Council in developing the UK & Ireland Network and is also responsible for expanding and disseminating the CIVINET concept
ARCHIMEDES (CIVITAS Plus 2007) – Introducing cleaner and better transport in cities
TTR is the Technical Manager for the CIVITAS ARCHIMEDES demonstration project which runs from 2009 to 2012. The aim of ARCHIMEDES is to introduce innovative, integrated and ambitious strategies for clean, energy-efficient, sustainable urban transport to achieve significant impacts in the policy fields of energy, transport, and environmental sustainability in 6 European cities. TTR is also supporting the Dissemination and Training & Learning elements of this project.
PIMMS TRANSFER - Transferring actions in sustainable mobility for European regions…
TTR is providing Project Secretariat Services for the PIMMS TRANSFER project, on behalf of the London European Partnership for Transport (LEPT). PIMMS TRANSFER is a three year project, running from 2008 to 2011 and is funded under the European Union's INTERREG IVC programme, which promotes the exchange of good practices between regions. PIMMS TRANSFER will extend, deepen and promote the transfer methodology developed in PIMMS (Partner Initiatives for the development of mobility management services).
START - encourage and promote Seamless Travel
START is an Atlantic Area INTERREG IVB project that has recently been launched to encourage and promote Seamless Travel across the Atlantic area Regions using sustainable Transport (START)
